Landscape & Nature Assignment

11-13-12
St. Helens dock
ISO 400, Aperture F 4.5, SS 1/125

This photo was actually a very small part of a much larger picture
I took. It didn't seem very special when I had it in color, because the colors
weren't very diverse or eye catching. Turning it to black and white was my
last attempt at making it work, and it turned out well.

St. Helens Dock
ISO 200, Aperture F 5.6, SS 1/125

I really love this photo, but I am worried that the boat would distract some from the
rest of the picture.

St. Helen's Dock
ISO 400, Aperture F 4.5, SS 1/500

The colors in this are really vibrant, but there are some things that might be
considered distracting.

12-9-12
Scappoose Creek
ISO 400,  Aperture F 4.5 SS 1/250

I like how it is very clear at the bottom,  and gets blurry as it goes up.

St. Helens Dock
ISO 800, Aperture F 5.6, SS 1/320

This is my favorite photo. I had a really hard time with
it because it kept mysteriously changing back to original settings
and I didn't know if I was over exposing it or if it was fine.

Near Scappoose Creek
ISO 1600, Aperture F /18, SS 1/5

The tree in this picture is so beautiful and mysterious looking to me
that I had to use it in my project. Risking the chance that it wouldn't be
considered "nature and landscape".

Scappoose Creek
ISO 1600, Aperture F /10, SS 1/10

The Scappoose creek is so pretty in some places, and
I wondered if this counted as reflection, but there is some in the
stump so I say it counts.

St. Helens Dock

I came in after school to finish this blog post, and when I went to
lightroom so I could write my ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed.
But when I tried to open it up, none of my pictures were there!
I don't know what to do about it but that is my dilema.

St. Helens Dock

I had the same problem here as with my last photo,
but at least I got a picture of some really pretty trees.

  1. I thought you did really well on your photo's. Everything was in focus and the texture of everything seems pretty neat. The critic part is some photos could be aligned a bit more and some could be cropped a little better, but over all you did an magnificent job! ^~^

  2. I thought you did a nice job on your close-ups. You did a good job with unique framing and had a variety of photographs. Had nice black and white photographs and had good contrasting photos. All your pictures were dramatic and really caught my eye. Some photos were a bit grainy and could of been a little clearer but you did very well over all.

  3. I liked how your black and whites are really eye catching and how you cropped the pictures so that certain things wouldn't be distracting. Next time I feel you could straighten a little more and stay in focus better.

  4. Black and white can be tricky, so I thought you did a really good job of making the composition of your B and W shots have a unique feel to it. They give off a vintage-y vibe. I like that. Your framing was really well done in your tree picture and I liked how you used a tree as a natural frame in your last one. I noticed you didn't have a reflection shot though and I think your first one was a little bit grainy even thought the composition was really well done. good job!

  5. I loved that you did some in black and white and some in colour. I liked how you framed your photos and how straight they were. A few things to fix:
the graininess of the first picture
some of the photos could have a higher exposure.
That is all. I loe your photos!

  6. Pro: Your photos are interesting and i think it really goes into depth about your character and your style of shooting. Has a new feeling on every photo that keeps your interest on top and still being able to capture the main focus of the photo. Your black and White photos are Impeccable and i love them a lot, i think you'll do an amazing job on our next project.

Con: Some photos as you have heard are a bit grainy and need maybe better thought going into it. You didn't have a total nature aspect to your photos and maybe challenging yourself to get more of nature in your photos would be nice.

  7. Ellen, I loved how you used B&W in your photos. I thought that this showed your own creativity and personality. Also, your photo subjects were awesome! You chose unique spots to shoot and I really enjoyed seeing all your photos. However, I think your last photo is a little unbalanced and the framing, although it's cool, is a little distracting from the colorful tree you are trying to focus on. Also in your creek photo, I think you could bring out the vibrancy just a little bit so it catches your eye more.
    Good Job!

  8. You have an incredible eye for great photography and your editing is awesome. I appreciated your use of black and white as well as colour. A few of your photos were a bit grainy (but I kinda like them better that way haha)

  9. I loved your first photo and also the one that was partly in and out of focus. The tree and farm one made my eyes happy as well. You did a great job of choosing to do black and white on some of these, although sometimes I think you could've done more with color.

  10. Ellen, Your pictures made me feel so comfortable and each and everyone seems like it has a story to go with it. You not only captured a photograph but it seems like you captured a emotion. Your black and white photographs were breath taking and the way you really brought out the white in the daisy was breath taking. When it comes to critiquing there is not much at all I would just say to make sure when cropping that you don't cut some much out that the photograph becomes grainy. :)
