This week I looked at peoples projects. I also decided that I really need to bring food for this class. So my petition is to have a Grilled Cheese sandwich day!!! That will be the best day of this year I'm sure :)
All the random things you will never here from me in person, and some pictures too.

Thursday Thoughts
We talked about portraits and posing and lighting. Joseph pointed out that photographers sometimes crop out the top of the head to focus of the eyes more. He also reminded us that we should put the key light at a 45 degree angle from the person.
When taking pictures of people you should try to capture the aura they have to show their best features and qualities. The eyes are almost always the most important part of the picture. This is not true EVERY time, but most.

Thursday Thoughts... OR...Deliberation on the Fourth Day
I admit I was really stressed about finishing this project. Especially after Joseph said Thursday Thursday Thursday... Monday! Its due! I do believe that it worked out well though! I loved this project.

Wednesday :3
Well this Wednesday we were missing our beloved teacher Mr. Long. In his absence we worked on our projects and got a lot of work done. It was a nice work day and everyone seemed happy. I am more than half way done with my project and only need a couple pictures which I will get this weekend.

The Thoughts of Thrursday
Posing Techniques
- Body Turns
- When People have a part in their hair, the side with less hair tends to subconsciously be their 'good side'.
- One eye tends to be smaller, so try to have that eye closer to the camera.
- If you face the camera straight on it is not flattering.
- Creating a Base
- Where your head and hands are placed is important. It should make a triangle between the two hands and the face.
- Tip and Turn
- Jut the chin out to create a better jaw line.
- Composition
- If you show the knees, then you have to show the feet.

I leaned what key lights are, and the flaps on the light are called barn doors. Also Mr. Long showed us the scrim on the light.
When you use reflectors outside, you want to bounce the light onto peoples face, to make the eyes more intense and beautiful.

Thursday thoughts
OK so I keep forgetting about thursday thoughts, so I am going to combine everything I've learned and thought this month and then start a weekly update after that.
I think my best moment including photography has been when we went into Portland as a group and shot. Joseph had lots of helpful things to say, like that we should try to look for an exciting background when we see a subject we like. And use reflection from windows. Don't make things just a little off, have it extremely straight or extremely off.
We talked a lot about tone values and white balance. I learned how to change the settings for both of those in lightroom. I perfected importing and exporting my pictures and being able to tell where all my pictures are really going.
This class is pretty great and even though I always forget Thursday thoughts I do love the class.

Shooting Exercise and Edit - Architectural

Tasha's Shot |
Shooting: When Tali, Tasha, and I went out to shoot, we circled the building in search of things that popped out to us. We didn't plan to all get something blue, but that is how it turned out.
Importing: I am starting to get a lot more comfortable with remembering how to find my photos and get them into lightroom.
Renaming: I always wonder what I should name my photos and I discovered that if I think too much about it I will get hung up on something as simple as a name so I just call them whatever I first think of.
Editing: This is my favorite step. I learned from Lauryn that there is a way to cover up "blemishes" by copying another part of the photo and putting it over the part you dont want.
Exporting: I think I am really getting the hang of this as well :D

Thursday Thoughts
What I have learned this week
The three parts of an image
- Shadows
- Highlights
- Mid tones
When I take an image into lightroom, the first thing I do is crop and straighten. Then I set the white balance.
We are starting to take photos of windows and doors. The hardest part for me so far is to find something interesting and to make the lines straight.
Exercise-architectural shoot
I learned on this assignment that when you are shooting buildings or windows then it is really hard to make all of the lines as straight as you want them. You have to pay a lot of attention to setting up the photo before taking it. Also making sure your photo's aren't grainy is important.
Once in lightroom there are some features that I didn't know about before, such as luminance. This will make your photo a lot more smooth and take away a great deal of the grainy looking parts if you have any.
I worked with Kelsey on this assignment.
